Case Study

Rajo Inca, Codelco

in Partnership with Tecnobooking, Chile

Introduction:

Codelco's Rajo Inca Camp in El Salvador is a key facility for the mining company, providing accommodation and services to its employees. The company aimed to improve the efficiency of its operations and reduce costs while maintaining a high level of service. To achieve these goals, they partnered with Tecnofast/Tecnobooking, a leading global provider of integrated facilities management and food services, to implement a range of innovative solutions.

Challenges:

The main challenges facing Codelco's Rajo Inca Camp were:

  1. Managing a large number of reservations efficiently and accurately.
  2. Ensuring high occupancy rates while minimizing the number of unused beds.
  3. Providing a high-quality service to employees while keeping costs under control.
  4. Managing energy and water consumption efficiently.

Solution:

To address these challenges, Codelco and Sodexo implemented a range of solutions, including:

  1. Reservations and process automation: The use of technology enabled the management of massive reservations of up to 1,000 people in less than 5 minutes, and check-out of up to 800 people in less than 3 minutes. The system also allowed for the control of reservations and bed allocation, with projected visualization for days, months and years.
  2. Express check-in: Employees can now use their smartphones or kiosks for express check-in, saving time and improving the overall experience.
  3. Access control: Passengers are checked in using CI/RUT, improving security and making the process more efficient.
  4. Optimization of food services: The use of data analytics helped to optimize the turnarounds in the casino, resulting in better service and shorter queues.

Results:

The implementation of these solutions has had a significant impact on the operations of Codelco's Rajo Inca Camp. Some of the key results are:

  1. Bed occupancy rates have increased to over 95%, while the efficiency in building occupancy has reached 100%.
  2. The camp's administration and reception staff has been reduced to just three people.
  3. The company has achieved significant cost savings, including a 50% reduction in staff for reservation administration, a 10% reduction in food services, and savings in cleaning and maintenance staff, energy, and water.
  4. The use of automation has resulted in a reduction in unconsumed food, energy and water savings due to closed buildings, and a reduction of personnel due to operational efficiency.
  5. The daily data of the census has helped to improve the scheduling of tasks such as cleaning and changing bedding, resulting in better service for employees.

Conclusion:

Codelco's Rajo Inca Camp has successfully implemented a range of innovative solutions, resulting in significant operational efficiency improvements and cost savings.

The use of technology has enabled the management of large volumes of reservations and the optimization of food services, while the implementation of energy and water management systems has resulted in significant savings. These solutions have allowed Codelco to maintain a high level of service for its employees while keeping costs under control.
